Travel agents in court for alleged visa fraud | The Guardian Nigeria News

The Police on Friday arrested two travel agents in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N1, 050, 000 from a woman under false pretenses of securing South African visas for her clients.

The defendants are Yusuf Salami, 44, and Nureni Akerele, 47.

Both are residents of Iyana Ipaja, Lagos State.

They are charged with conspiracy, stealing and obtaining by false pretenses, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Evelyn Ehieniua, told the court that the defendants committed the offenses on June 26 at Iyana Ipaja.

Portmore travel agent charged with fraud over hotel reservation | News

A Portmore businesswoman has been charged with fraud on allegations of failing to return more than $900,000 to a woman over a hotel booking.

A date is to be set for 39-year-old Kenniesha Burrell, of Phoenix Park in St Catherine, who is charged with fraudulent conversion, to appear in court.

The police say the charge stemmed from an incident that occurred between January and August.

Reports from the Portmore police are that Burrell, who is known to the complainant as a travel reservations agent, was allegedly paid $992,000 for reservations to be made at a five-star all-inclusive hotel.

Ontario woman charged for posing as travel agent

An Ontario woman has been charged in a significant fraud case after she was allegedly posed as a travel agent and pocketed the cash of several victims.

Durham Regional Police said the 43-year-old woman fraudulently sold vacations, and investigators opened a case in 2020 following reports that the accused was impersonating a travel agent and was “kiting.”

Police defined “kiting” as a type of fraud in the travel industry, where an agent collects money payments from clients and doesn’t apply the cash to the client’s vacation but rather pockets the funds.

Sheriff: Statesville travel agent charged with swindling local seniors

The owner of a local travel agency faces six felony charges in connection with a scheme to defraud a group of seniors following an investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Charles Eric Johnson, 43, of Birchwood Road, Statesville, faces six counts of obtaining property by false pretenses. Sheriff Darren Campbell announced his arrest in a news release.
